date the first slumses in Somiedo, but the absence of vestiges of the
paleolítico makes think that the first settlers correspond to the neolithic
one. From then to Somiedo it has received the influence of different cultures
here, for example,

the church during the Average Age.
Formerly the agricultural activity
had certain importance in a subsistence economy, but today the inhabitants of
Somiedo live mainly on the cattle ranch. The council is one of the most
important reserves of a particular race of bovine, the Asturian one of Valleys
or is vacant roxa, destined to the meat production. One is a system of
extensive cattle ranch, based on the mixed advantage of the ground of private
use and collective lands. The habitual scheme is a cyclical displacement of
the cattle between the
meadows near the town, of
private
property and the communal grass of height used during the summer and the grass
of brañas, where it remains the cattle until the autumn to the delay of being
estabulado in winter until the next spring. To this general model other two
more and more minority schemes are superposed: th

vaqueiros of raised on the one hand and the trashumante merino cattle coming
from the plateau by
another one. The vaqueiros of raised inhabit some population centers in
Somiedo (the Port, the Pear tree, the Llamardal and, formerly, some more) a
part of the year; the rest of the time lowers with their cattles to pass the
winter to towns of Miranda and Rooms. The interaction of the population with
natural means and its advantage has given rise to a rich ethnographic
patrimony whose more singular element is the constructio

with teito of broom (covered vegetal), this type of cover was used in houses,
hórreos, mills, churches, etc ....., as well as the cabanas of brañas, which
we can observe distributed by all the Park in an important number. It exists
another type of cabins of circular plant and stone whole numbers called groups
of people that also we can contemplate in some braña. Also they are to
emphasize the olleras, done constructions of stone next to sources by which
the water ran that cooled milk that contained the pots. Like in other many
zones of Asturias numerous hórreos and paneras exist, also hydraulic mills and
of rabil, all it related to a self-supplying economy.
